Overview
ZapZyt has become one of the most popular acne products on the Internet, mainly due to the formula’s presence on MySpace and other web sites visited by younger people. The company offers a full line of acne fighting products, including cleansers and spot treatments. Some of these products are included in a three-step system, which we have found is a logical approach to treating acne. But, since ZapZyt has become so visible on the Internet, we decided to give it a more critical look.
Featured Ingredients
Benzoyl Peroxide. This chemical was developed in the 1920s as a peeling agent. It was found to be an effective treatment for acne, since it promotes the remove of dead skin cells from the surface of skin. Because of its harsh effects, it also clears pores. Unfortunately, Benzoyl Peroxide is slowly becoming phased out, due to the fact that several studies - including research conducted in 1977 - estimate that as many as 76% of people may develop adverse itching and drying reactions to Benzoyl Peroxide.
Salicylic Acid. Fortunately, a few ZapZyt products contain Salicylic Acid, which is one of the best acne-treating ingredients available. Salicylic Acid clears pores and eliminates many types of blemishes. It also encourages the natural skin cell replacement process. Scientists have found that the best treatments contain Salicylic Acid at its maximum strength concentration of 2.0%, which will treat even the most stubborn forms of acne. But be sure to check the label, since not all ZapZyt products will contain the optimum 2.0% concentration.
Even though Salicylic Acid is a good choice, we are disappointed that the ZapZyt line of acne products fail to include other recent breakthroughs, such as Silicol Dioxide (which helps control oil), Inflacin (which helps soothe skin and buffers the drying effects of some acne treatment medications) or QuSomes (they ensure deep delivery of key active ingredients). Hopefully, as ZapZyt’s popularity increases, those in charge of the company will change the formulas to include these ingredients as well. Until then, we can only half-heartedly recommend the ZapZyt products that contain Salicylic Acid.
Web Site at a Glance
ZapZyt contains a well constructed site that seems to have the younger consumer in mind. The web site features bright colors and a video greeting from two spokespersons on the home page. The ZapZyt site does contain a fairly large amount of customer testimonials, but no photos of these people are included, which could lead to someone questioning their credibility. In addition, the ZapZyt site only presents the simplest presentation of how its products – and the active ingredients – work. No scientific research or data on testing is given. Plus, even though the site promotes a $2 Back offer, there is no chance to try ZapZyt for free before deciding if the product is right for you.
Pros
- Does contain Salicylic Acid, one of the best ingredients for clearing acne
Cons
- No free trial offered
- Lack of scientific research or testing data
- Does not contain Inflacin, Silicol Dioxide or other proven acne fighting ingredients
